“F*** the Hierarchy” is a minimalistic, type-based poster series presenting a total of three different sentences through simple text fragments, with their individual words randomly scattered across the layout surface and contentually reimagined on the basis of wonky scribbles created using Adobe InDesign’s pencil tool. Through its experimental nature, the work intentionally challenges viewers to decipher the depicted quotes—both literally and in reference to the deeper meaning of their hidden messages. By completely ignoring established guidelines within graphic design, including various fundamental concepts such as layout grids, alignments and basic legibility, it conceptually questions existing design rules in relation to visual hierarchy and common standards of text placement.
Through this work, I want to escape from my own perfectionist mindset by allowing myself to create poorly with a focus on the intriguing nature of so-called “bad design”.
