Fragile Goods

vacuum-sealed objects, custom shipping labels and “FRAGILE” sticker
*set of 3, 30x40cm each

Consisting of three vacuum-sealed objects acting as physical representations of the artist’s childhood memories, Fragile Goods is a sceptical exploration of the human obsession with protectively keeping physical memory objects.
Our internal memories, which are stored within neuron-based engram complexes and transported via synaptic connections, are immensely unstable and accordingly fragile products that are constantly subject to change due to the phenomenon of memory reconstruction, being naturally confronted with the potential of distortion with every active process of remembering. Paradoxically, both the items themselves as well as the memories connected to them, while being kept safe within their respective vacuum seal bags, have inevitably become useless, merely captured and compressed into an unidentifiable mass out of the irrational fear of becoming destroyed under natural circumstances.
