The photography series “I can see it all so much more clearly now” consists of 59 images taken from the artist’s personal archive of childhood photos. Through the consistent pixelation of each individual black-and-white image—depicting a younger version of herself as well as typical scenes from her own childhood—it visually references the impact of our nostalgic subjectivity, distorted recollections and common instances of childlike innocence on our subsequent views about our own past, where we didn’t yet understand the existence of global disasters, the diverse struggles our parents were confronted with during our childhood, early developmental stages of psychological issues and the constant hardships of daily life. Just like what we believe to accurately remember about our personal background and life situation as young children, the contents and visual details of these pixel memories too can only be fully grasped by stepping back in order to take on a new perspective and are thus strictly meant to be looked at from a distance.
