Between searching for the meaning of life, questioning the existential purpose of creating, experiencing a subliminally raging identity crisis, trying to learn how to practice self-love and accepting her own antisocialness, why should i _____? encapsulates the overwhelming nature of the artist’s everyday thoughts in relation to her experience with toxic behavioral patterns and a chronic sense of lethargy based in recurring depressive episodes. Just like the paper scroll translating them into the physical space, these tangled, complex themes unfold into a list of self-opposed interrogations and a rambling, deeply personal train of thoughts full of questioning, doubting and overthinking.
Accompanied by small glimpses of hopefulness that are immediately destroyed again by a wave of despair grounded in the artist’s own self-destructive thinking habits and pessimistic tendencies, the work follows her decision to escape from this vicious cycle by openly confronting, resisting and finally overcoming the human urge to make sense of everything.
